Over 47% of U.S. adults have prediabetes (PD) or type 2 diabetes (T2D), yet 84% of PD cases and 21% of T2D cases remain undiagnosed, contributing to severe health and economic burdens. Current screening guidelines are underutilized, leaving millions unaware of their condition.
Smart devices, such as smartwatches, offer a scalable, non-invasive solution by continuously capturing physiological and behavioral data linked to glycemic health. This research aims to harness wearable-based digital biomarkers to improve early detection of PD and T2D, enabling timely interventions that could prevent or even reverse disease progression.
