Letter from the Director
Welcome to the Duke Center for Computational and Digital Health Innovation. Our Center is an exciting new home for interdisciplinary research, education, and innovation at the intersection of technology and healthcare.
At the heart of our mission is the principle of “Find, Track, Treat.” We are committed to discovering new ways to detect health issues early, continuously track disease progression, and develop personalized, impactful treatments that improve patient outcomes. Through our comprehensive scope, we are uniquely positioned to solve pressing health challenges.
Our center is setting the stage to revolutionize healthcare through the integration of computational engineering and artificial intelligence. By harnessing and uniting three powerful enabling technologies—wearable sensors, high performance computing, and extended reality (XR)—we are advancing the frontiers of healthcare, making real-time, data-driven insights possible. These enabling technologies are not just tools—they are the cornerstone of a new era in medicine, where AI models are trained on multimodal data, immersive XR environments enable deeper understanding, and predictive insights drive proactive care.
Our Center provides a vibrant platform for innovation and collaboration, where researchers, clinicians, engineers, and industry partners work side-by-side to pioneer new solutions. Together with our interdisciplinary partners throughout Duke University—the Pratt School of Engineering, the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, and the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences—we provide singular solutions to some of the most important health challenges of our time.
We are equally dedicated to education and training, equipping the next generation of scientists, engineers, and healthcare professionals with the skills and tools they need to lead in this evolving field. Through hands-on learning experiences, workshops, and seminars, we aim to foster a collaborative ecosystem that drives both technical and professional development.
As we continue to grow, the Center will play a vital role in connecting Duke’s rich network of expertise to the broader scientific and healthcare communities. We look forward to supporting new partnerships, fostering innovation, and translating research into real-world applications that benefit patients globally.
I invite you to join us in this exciting journey as we push the boundaries of what is possible in computational and digital health. Together, we will redefine the future of healthcare.
Sincerely,
Amanda Randles, Ph.D.
